Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) today announced a profit distribution of 3.10% after zakat for the financial year ended 31 December 2020 compared to 3.05% in 2019.

According to the statement of the pilgrimage management body, the savings and investment, profit distribution for 2020 involving a total of RM2.24 billion compared to RM2.14 billion in 2019 will be enjoyed by about nine million depositors.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Al Bakri said TH's financial performance last year remained positive despite the country's economic and world environment being volatile since the end of 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Alhamdulillah, TH depositors can enjoy better profits for 2020 despite facing a bad economy last year.

"As an institution that holds the trust to manage almost RM77 billion in deposits of Malaysian Muslims, TH will continue to ensure that these funds are invested safely to remain sustainable," he said in the statement as reported by Bernama.

According to TH, the total deposit reached RM76.7 billion on February 26, the highest level in its history, thus reflecting depositors' confidence in TH remains intact.

At the same time, TH also paid zakat payments of RM106.2 million for 2020 compared to RM86 million in 2019.

“Therefore, depositors no longer need to pay zakat on their savings and profit distribution received. Payment of zakat will benefit the needy asnaf throughout the country, "according to TH.

TH's business will be postponed temporarily from 8 tonight until 12 noon tomorrow to launch a profit distribution business.

TH added that depositors can check the distribution of profits credited to their accounts after 12 noon tomorrow through the THiJARI application, TH counter, Bank Islam and Bank Rakyat as well as TH's electronic strategic bank electronic channels namely Bank Islam, Bank Rakyat, Maybank and CIMB .

On the development of Hajj, Zulkifli said, until now the Saudi Arabian government has not issued an official statement related to the Hajj season this year despite having received about 100,000 Umrah pilgrims since November 1 last year.

"Although we have not yet received confirmation about the pilgrimage this year, we need to be prepared for all possibilities.

“Therefore, I advise all prospective pilgrims to follow the basic weekly hajj course which is being organized by TH online. Prospective pilgrims also need to take care of their health by taking care of their diet and exercise because Hajj requires physical and mental strength, ”he explained.
