Three Sectors in Focus Today

 Trading on Bursa Malaysia continued to decline as it opened for trading this morning and is expected to be in a stable mode with market sentiment remaining cautious in the absence of new catalysts amid low crude oil and crude palm oil prices.


At 9.06am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 1.66 points to 1,596.07 from 1,597.73 points at the close yesterday.


However at 9 this morning, the key index opened 1.01 points higher at 1,598.74.


On the broader market, gainers outpaced losers by 226 to 180 while 334 counters were unchanged, 1,492 untraded and 45 others suspended.


According to Bernama, the volume was 331.55 million shares worth RM137.4 million.


According to Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd, given the weak trading interest in the market, traders will be more selective in seeking trading opportunities.



Meanwhile, the focus sectors were construction, building materials and real estate after news of the Penang Transport Master Plan appeared in the media yesterday.


“Meanwhile, recovery -themed sectors such as consumers will still be under scrutiny, while technology stocks may recover, supported by positive overnight performance on the Nasdaq.


Among heavyweights, Maybank was unchanged at RM8.23, PBBank and Tenaga rose two sen each to RM4.19 and RM10.78, PChem declined seven sen to RM7.98 and IHH and CIMB were both unchanged, at RM5.41 and RM4.46 respectively.


For the most active counters, HiapTeck and its warrants rose 1.5 sen to 48.5 sen and 11.5 sen respectively, Widad rose 1.5 sen to 51.5 sen, MMAG declined one sen to 34 sen and HBGlob 1.5 sen higher at 27 sen.


On the index board, the FBM Emas Index declined 3.52 points to 11,732.82, the FBMT 100 declined 4.41 points to 11,405.20 and the FBM Emas Syariah was lower 10.81 points to 13,030.78.


The FBM ACE index however rose 2.01 points at 10,364.85 and the FBM 70 added 22.72 points to 15,495.59.


By sector, the Financial Services Index rose 31.47 points to 15,279.47, while the Industrial Products and Services Index fell 0.31 points to 191.16, and the Plantation Index lost 6.67 points to 7,075.68.
