British Prime Minister Boris Johnson today announced proactive measures in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic and accelerating economic growth. On Monday he announced that all Britons would be able to undergo COVID-19 testing twice a week and the distribution of the vaccine would continue.
With this, analysts expect Johson to reopen the border gates by allowing people to travel internationally. To achieve this, the vaccination program will continue to be intensified.
While most European countries have imposed ‘lockdown’ measures to deal with cases that continue to spread, Johnson has even opted to reduce sanctions for months to come.
Johsnon said, ‘we continue to make good progress in the vaccination program and reduce restrictions over time as planned. Thus faster and more systematic testing is important to ensure that the effort is not in vain.
Increased testing will help health officials to detect the outbreak as the country slowly reopens from tight restrictions. Johnson confirmed that all retail, outdoor hospitality and hairdressers could reopen on April 12 in England.
The GBP continued to strengthen against the US dollar by 0.35% to the exchange rate of 1.3876 as of 9.15 p.m.
