The United States announced a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing in protest of China’s human rights abuses.
As a result, the Biden administration will not send any diplomatic or official delegations to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, but allow their athletes to China to compete.
The move comes in the wake of China's ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang and other human rights violations, according to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Monday.
In a separate report, China slammed the Biden administration’s actions by saying it was a self -directed political act by Washington. However, it is said that it will not affect the games because no invitations were given to US politicians.
A spokesman for China’s mission to the United Nations (UN) says America only wants to politicize sports, create divisions and spark confrontation.
Beijing also said it would take a harsh response to the action which would surely worsen relations between the two sides.
The latest feud between the two giant economies does not appear to have affected the market, seeing risk -sensitive currency trading of the Aussie dollar and kiwi still continuing to rise.
