The mascot is used by most fast-food restaurants to attract customers. Almost every fast-food has their own mascot from a bear to an elderly grandfather.

For McDonald’s, his mascot is none other than a clown named Ronald McDonald who was once an icon synonymous with the global fast-food chain.

However, who would have thought that the iconic clown was fired due to his tarnished image.

McDonald’s has chosen the clown as its mascot because the clown is a symbol of cheerfulness, fun and hopes it can attract more children to come to the restaurant.

Since the 1960s, McDonald’s has had a clown, Bozo as its mascot before firing the clown and replacing him with a new clown named Ronald McDonald.

Ronald McDonald made his first appearance on TV in conjunction with Thanksgiving Day then appeared on a SuperBowl ad in 1966. In the 1970s, meanwhile, Ronald McDonald's comics were introduced along with his friends such as Mayor McCheese, Grimace and Hambuglar.

Then in 2013, McDonald’s introduced the ‘I’m Lovin It’ campaign and at the same time saw Ronald McDonald’s character become less and less used.

Beginning that year, the image of the clown synonymous with cheerfulness began to change where the clown character began to be synonymous with the character of ghosts and assassins to the point of frightening children.

This is due to the influence of many stories that feature clown characters with horrible images like the I.T and Joker movies.

As a result, Ronald McDonald’s image began to change and subsequently in 2016, the iconic fast-food clown was officially fired.
