Twitter Inc. is experimenting to allow companies to showcase 50 products for sale on their profiles.

According to a statement made by Twitter on Wednesday, the move is part of the company's plan to raise US $ 45 billion in the social commerce market.

He added that the beta test of Twitter Shops for now will only be available to a select few merchants in the United States (US) and can only be accessed using the iPhone Twitter application only.

Among the first merchants to use the Twitter Shops beta test was US wireless equipment provider Verizon, which sold iPhone casings and wireless chargers on Wednesday.

For the record, the move taken by Twitter seems to follow Facebook and Instagram owned by Meta Platforms Inc which lead social commerce (Facebook Marketplace and Instagram Shop), allowing merchants to set up virtual stores and sell products.

Slightly different from the Twitter Shop function, it will take users to the merchant’s website to make a payment after viewing the product.

It’s a development on a feature tested last year that only allows merchants to showcase 5 products on their Twitter profiles.

In addition, last year Twitter also tested its livestream shopping platform with Walmart as its first beta tester.
