Tesla Inc. had to extend the suspension of its operating plant in Shanghai after the city entered a phased lockdown phase to curb a case involving Covid-19.
Telsa’s Gigafactory production plant built near China’s major financial center had to extend the supposed delay of a day to 4 days until April 1.
Generally, the city of Shanghai entered a lockdown with it locking down half of its city on a scale to conduct massive tests in curbing the re-violent Covid-19 outbreak.
As a result, the Tesla plant located east of the Huangpu river was ordered to comply with a curfew on Monday for 4 days.
It indirectly affects Tesla employees although there is a possibility they could return to work when the curfew moves across town.
According to a company spokesperson, Tesla has always been firm in complying with the responsibilities of the main body of epidemic prevention and control, by implementing all relevant requirements and arranging work in accordance with government policy.
Clearly, the first large plant overseas, which had produced half of its electric cars (EVs) last year had to suspend production for 2 days earlier this month.
They are also said to be doing everything possible to ensure that production can continue, in addition to complying with the curfew order announced by the government.
For the record, the Shanghai-based plant plays an important role for Tesla, as it is the company's 2nd largest market and EVs produced at the plant will be exported to Europe as well as Asia.
Data from the China Passenger Car Association reported that Tesla had shipped 56,515 cars from the plant in February alone with 23,200 for the domestic market and 33,315 for export.
At last Friday’s closing session, Tesla shares were seen down 0.32%.
