British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had overstepped his bounds in his aggression on Ukraine.
The comments from Johnson were issued as the U.K. chose to impose more sanctions on key Russian sectors that are said to contribute to Russian military equipment.
Speaking to reporters at a NATO summit in Brussels on Thursday, Johnson noted Vladimir Putis had overstepped his bounds and the UK administration chose to impose more restrictions on strategic industries, banking and large corporations. He added that more sanctions were a measure to help Ukraine in the hope that the conflict could end sooner.
The NATO summit was attended by many countries which was then followed by a meeting of EU leaders and G-7 countries that included the Russia-Ukraine conflict as a top agenda.
The UK announced 65 new Russian sanctions on Thursday morning targeting a range of key strategic industries and individuals supporting Russian aggression. The sanctions target Russian railway and defense company Kronshtadt, which is a major manufacturer of Russian drones.
Six other banks were also targeted, including Alfa Bank. Some of the richest businessmen have also fallen victim to sanctions. Based on a statement from the State Department, U.K. has now blocked more than 1,000 individuals and businesses under Russia’s sanctions regime since the invasion.
