Recovering Sentiment Pushes the Stock Exchange to Open Green Again Today

 At 9.05am the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 12.54 points at 1,574.87 from Wednesday's close of 1,562.33.


The index opened strong 8.38 points at 1,570.71.


It opened green extending gains yesterday on the back of recovering investor sentiment following the United Arab Emirates (UAE) move to boost oil supplies.


On the broader market, investors saw gainers outpacing losers by 303 to 107, while 178 counters were unchanged, 1,699 untraded and 13 suspended.


Total turnover at 238.57 million units worth RM169.65 million.


According to news reports, the UAE and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC+) and its allies will increase oil supplies by 400,000 barrels a day per month to address supply problems following the Russia-Ukraine crisis.



Meanwhile, Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice -president of equity research, Thong Pak Leng said the Wall Street equity market rebounded due to the recovering positive investor sentiment.


He added that the KLCI is expected to maintain an uptrend and hover within the 1,555-1,575 level.


Heavyweights saw Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd up 17 sen at RM8.98 and RM10.14, Public Bank Bhd and IHH Healthcare Bhd added 10 sen at RM4.50 and RM6.48 while Press Metal Aluminum Holdings Bhd lost 19 sen at RM6.68.


Active stocks saw Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd fall 16 sen to RM1.18, Green Packet Bhd rose 0.5 sen to 10 sen, Dagang NeXchange Bhd (DNeX) and Pertama Digital Bhd added 3 sen to RM1.08 and 85 sen while Dataprep Holdings Bhd rose 2 sen. cents at 38.5 cents.


On the index board, FBM Emas rose 91.37 points at 11,134.54, FBM 70 added 172.45 points at 12,991.65, FBMT 100 rose 98.55 points at 10,838.89, FBM ACE bloomed 52.42 points at 5,246.81 and FBM Emas Shariah reached 52.22 points at 11,775.96.


In terms of sectors, the Products and Services Industry index strengthened 0.50 points at 208.43, the Financial Services index rose 268.82 points at 16,276.44 and the Plantation index declined 129.34 points at 8,299.48.
