Despite the pressure exerted on European allies not to buy Russian oil, the United States has apparently increased its supply of crude oil from Moscow by 43% or 100,000 barrels a day over the past week.
The Global Times reported on that fact from Mikhail Popov's Russian Salvation Council Business Companion on Sunday, in which critics suggested that the US was only pursuing its own interests by "using" its European allies.
The Russian official said again, Europe should have expected a similar 'surprise' than the US.
America and its allies have been trying to ban imports of Russian oil since the Russo-Ukrainian conflict began, despite the fact that Europe relies heavily on Moscow for crude oil and natural gas.
Europe is facing pressure from the US and UK to implement curbs on Russian oil, with Britain announcing it will reduce its reliance on Russian imports before the end of this year.
At the same time, America is also said to have justified its company in exporting mineral steel from Russia by acknowledging it as a necessity.
According to the US Energy Declaration Administration (EIA) report, quoted by Reuters, the amount of Russian oil imports by the US has increased by 43% from 19 to 25 March compared to the previous week. This shows that the US imports up to 100,000 barrels of Russian crude oil every day.
The increase took effect even though President Joe Biden had signed the executive order on March 8. The regulation prohibits the import of power and new reassignments in the Russian power sector.
