‘Will the Terminator story come true? Machine warfare is becoming a reality. '

The post-Covid-19 era will see significant changes in Singapore's labor market as the country is seen replacing manpower with machines (robots).

The country, which relies on foreign labor, is seen as ‘adapting technology faster’ after the number of workers ’entries declined by 235,700 between December 2019 and September 2021.

This can be seen by the use of a four -legged robot called ‘Spot’ created by the United States (US) Boston Dynamics, which is used by Singapore construction firm Gammon.

Bright Gammon general manager Michael O’Connell, Spot used to scan sections of mud and gravel in checking the progress of the work, has managed to reduce the work that has so far required 2 people.

In addition, the National Library of Singapore is also seen using 2 reading rack robots that can scan labels on 100,000 books or 30% a day.

Lee Yeen Fuang, assistant director of the National Library of Singapore noted that the use of such robots has reduced routine and labor -intensive aspects.

The greatest integration of machines into life in Singapore to date is a barista robot created by Crown Digital that has successfully solved the ‘biggest weak point’ in the food and beverage industry which is hiring.

Ijmalnya, Singapore is on the best track to integrate machines in daily life with the country now having 605 robots installed for every 10,000 workers in the manufacturing industry, just one ranking behind South Korea which has 932 robots used in the industry by 2021.

Even so, the use of robots is not as smooth as human touch and there are definitely some of us who are uncomfortable interacting with inanimate machines.
