‘Oh, is there a new war crisis after Russia-Ukraine?’

Recently China was seen embarking on provocations by launching several air missions in Taiwan’s air defense zone including the invasion of 30 fighter jets which it claimed were training.

As a result, Taiwan has responded to the provocation by deploying fighter jets to repel planes flying on the shores of its air defenses as a warning.

The incident came days after the President of the United States (US), Joe Biden warned of the invasion of Taiwan, and on the same day a US official visited the island.

According to Biden, the airstrikes that took place during his visit to Taiwan were considered a provocation and the US was ready to provide military assistance if Beijing attacked the island.

The latest aggression by China has also added to the anger of Taiwanese and worsened the situation between the two countries.

As a context, China and Taiwan had split during the civil war in the 1940s but Beijing insisted that they would reclaim the island even by force.

It is believed the invasion was made by China as a warning to Taiwan which is working towards an official declaration of its independence.

According to Taiwan's Ministry of Defense, Chinese planes were flying in the northeastern part of the Pratas Islands which is part of Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ*), and if they entered the area then it signified hostility.

*ADIZ is an area outside the country's territory and national airspace where foreign aircraft are identified, monitored and controlled in the interest of national security.

The Taiwanese government reported that China had declared ADIZ in the Pratas Islands a ‘gray zone’ of war aimed at testing their military response.
