Exchanges Open Lower As Risk Sentiment On Wall Street

 At 9am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was down 0.15 points at 1,523.71 from Wednesday's close of 1,523.86.


The index opened 0.55 points weaker at 1,523.31.


The bourse opened weaker after tracking Wall Street’s gloomy overnight signals as investors continued to await economic data as well as a meeting of central banks this week.


On the broader market, investors saw losers at 153 outnumber gainers at 120, while 196 counters were unchanged, 1,805 untraded and 10 suspended.


Total turnover at 158.76 million units worth RM72.95 million.


Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd's note explained that investor confidence waned at the last minute as inflationary concerns and price pressures led to selling on the KLCI.



Clearly, the tech sector is once again under pressure based on Wall Street’s weak performance overnight.


In addition, supply problems returned to concern with rising oil prices as well as strikes in South Korea, adding to the risk of inflation.


As a result, they listed recovery -themed sectors, consumers, REITs, energy as well as transportation and logistics would have a place.


Heavyweights saw Malayan Banking Bhd add 1 sen to RM8.85 while Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd declined 5 sen to RM9.80, IHH Healthcare Bhd fell 2 sen to RM6.51, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd lost 3 sen to RM5.04 and Public Bank Bhd remained at RM4.57.


Active stocks saw Dynaciate Bhd advance 1.5 sen at 16 sen, Yew Lee Pacific Group Bhd and Metronic Global Bhd added 2.5 sen at 31.5 sen and 9 sen, LGMS Bhd drove 4.5 sen at 89 sen while Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd was flat at 11.5 sen.


On the index board, the FBM Emas index recovered 3.81 points at 10,936.8, the FBM Emas Shariah index added 12.95 points at 11,246.33, FBM 70 drove 0.89 points at 13,293, FBM ACE reached 6.4 points at 5,240.5 while the FBMT 100 index decreased 0.64 points at 10,621.67.


In terms of sector, the Financial Services index declined 14.49 points at 16,564.62, the Plantation index declined 11.05 points at 7,800.73 and the Products and Services Industry index declined 0.06 points at 196.2.
