Australian new prime minister Anthony Albanese has submitted an application to the country's labor observer, which suggests a minimum wage increase than inflation in an effort to fulfill one of his previous election promises.

Albanese said in a statement on Friday that high inflation and poor salary growth had reduced real wages in the economy and created a cost of living on low -income workers in Australia.

He added that the government did not want to see Australian workers backward, in particular, low -pay workers with inflationary effects and had the least ability to use savings.

The current minimum wage is A $ 20.33 (RM64.71) per hour. During last month's pre-election campaign, Albanese promised to support a 5.1% increase in minimum wage rate.

The Australian Fair Workers Commission will announce its annual salary review later this month.

Pressure from rising cost of living due to higher gasoline prices and faster interest rate rising prospects have scored Australian households, causing consumer sentiment to fall to the weakest level since August 2020.

The prime minister said the minimum wage increase would also complement his government's efforts to help bridge the national gender gap between 22.8%.
