The United States has again challenged China following the arrival of its congressional delegation led by Massachusetts Democratic Senator Ed Markey has arrived in Taiwan on an unannounced two-day visit.

A delegation consisting of Democratic Representatives John Garamendi, Alan Lowenthal and Don Beyer, as well as Republican Representative Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen, arrived on the island on Sunday.

According to Markey's spokesman in a statement, the visit aims to further strengthen American support for Taipei and promote stability and peace across the Taiwan Strait.

During the visit, the group will meet with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu and hold discussions with Taiwan's parliament's Foreign Affairs and National Defense committee on security and trade issues.

Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the delegation and thanked them for showing strong US support for Taipei despite rising tensions with China.

Earlier, US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's visit had angered Beijing and prompted them to conduct large-scale military exercises around Taiwan.
