Facebook and TikTok applications 'eccentrically' missed the deadline for registration requirements in Japan after the government of the Matahari Terbit country continued to push for oversight of the technology company.

According to the Nikkei statement, Meta Platform Inc and ByteDance Inc have successfully registered the application a day before the deadline set by the Japanese Ministry of Justice which was last Tuesday evening.

As a context, any company doing business in Japan needs to register their activities in order to facilitate legal action against any complaints such as online abuse in Japan.

Under the directive, as many as 28 out of 48 companies are understood to have completed registration under the Japanese telecommunications law before the deadline which is Tuesday.

And 7 companies so far are understood to have failed to comply with the directive and face fines and need to submit registration paperwork as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Google and Microsoft are among the other companies that have successfully registered their business activities in Japan while Twitter's registration status is still pending.

Going on the record, Meta previously told Nikkei that they 'refused to continue doing business in Japan' by not complying with the registration requirements but acted otherwise after holding negotiations with the Ministry of Justice.
