The Covid-19 variants, Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 are about to find their 'cure' with Moderna Inc seeking approval from the United States (US) Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
It is understood that the vaccine company has successfully developed a booster shot (booster shot) based on pre-clinical tests containing the dominant BA.4/BA.5 variant along with the original Covid virus chain.
According to the company's statement, they have submitted the results of the test and are conducting intermediate and final stage trials which are expected to be completed in September.
Examining the results of Moderna's pre-clinical tests, 2 booster shots against the BA.1 sub-variant as well as BA.4 and BA.5 successfully showed neutralization compared to the original Covid-19 booster dose.
In general, Moderna's actions have been expected by many parties since competing companies such as Pfizer Inc and BioNTech have previously requested approval of their booster shots from the US authorities.
Pfizer is reportedly seeking approval for emergency vaccine use in individuals over 12 years of age while Moderna is seeking clearance for use in individuals over 18 years of age.
So far the US along with Britain and some members of the European Union (EU) are actively conducting vaccination campaigns during the fall to protect against an increase in cases in the future.
In the meantime, the FDA previously asked vaccine makers to develop vaccines targeting the 2 sub-variants without having to obtain their permission to conduct trials on human subjects.
