Faced with a difficult road to recovery, China's Premier has called on the country's wealthiest regions to provide economic support to boost growth.

Earlier this year, Premier Li Keqiang spoke about the faltering economy of the world's second giant and repeatedly emphasized the need to stabilize the sagging job market.

On Tuesday, Li made an unexpected appearance in Shenzhen and met with top officials from six major economic regions.

Following the current bleak economic situation, he urged them to increase support for local businesses and open up more foreign trade and investment.

In the meeting, Li Keqiang also admitted that they are at the most difficult point in economic recovery.

Therefore, they need to strengthen economic recovery with immediate action because time waits for no one, he said.

The six provinces including, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Henan and Sichuan are the pillars of China's economic growth which account for 45% of the gross domestic product (GDP) and 40% of the country's employment.
