Malaysia is projected to achieve economic growth of between 5.3% and 6.3% this year, given that the country's gross domestic product (GDP) is one of the best in the Southeast Asian region.

The optimistic tone was expressed by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob by outlining the post-Covid-19 recovery momentum that will be the main driving force that continues for Malaysia.

He commented that the 'maturity of the Malaysian family' and the 'effectiveness of the government's administrative machinery' in using a collaborative approach have driven economic recovery quickly and effectively.

In general, Malaysia's GDP data for the 2nd quarter of 2022 recorded an encouraging growth of 8.9% which is also one of the highest in the Southeast Asian region.

In addition, Malaysia's wholesale and retail trade also recorded a strong increase on an annual basis by 44% to RM132.8 billion during June.

According to Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, the results were successfully achieved through the reopening of the economic sector and international borders.

He added that for the first half of 2022 alone, foreign direct investment recorded a net inflow of RM14.7 billion compared to RM23.3 billion in the same period before the outbreak of the Covid-19 outbreak in 2019.
