Pos Malaysia BHD has issued the country's first non-fungible token (NFT) stamp, making it the second postal service provider in Southeast Asia to do so after Thailand.
It is said that the initiative is a collaboration between Pos Malaysia BHD and local retail store brand A Piece of Malaysia (APOM) which is under the annual #Empatbelas project in conjunction with the national day on 31 August and Malaysia Day on 16 September.
Through a statement on Thursday yesterday, Pos Malaysia stated that the limited edition NFT stamps can be redeemed through every purchase of the limited edition #Empatbelas Setem Ku stamp folder set.
Also explained, the stamp folder set contains 14 physical stamps designed by artist representatives of each state in Malaysia.
He added that Pos Malaysia revealed that it will sell 3,000 sets of stamps at a price of RM59 each through online, retail purchases at stamp counters and Kuala Lumpur post offices while purchases at selected post offices will start on Monday next week.
After purchase, buyers have until October 31st to redeem one of the 14 NFT stamp designs.
According to Pos Malaysia group chief executive officer Charles Brewer, breaking into the NFT market is an important goal for his company in complementing its traditional postal offering with various digital services and products.
It was also commented that his collaboration with Apom has opened an opportunity for local artists to show their talent not only in Malaysia but globally because NFT can be shared or traded internationally.
In fact, he believes that the project will actually improve efficiency and customer relationships in a world that is growing rapidly towards digital.
