According to the head of the technical agency Covid-19 Maria Van Kerkhove, the World Health Organization (WHO) has detected the spread of more than 300 sub-variants of Omicron around the world.
He expressed concern through his Twitter account last Wednesday about the increased rate of spread of the variant and the risk of re-infection.
Van Kerkhove said the Omicron variant is currently the most dominant worldwide, with nearly 80% of its sub-variants being the BA.5 variant.
According to him, concern continues to rise when experts see the increase in the spread of the XBB variant in some countries.
XBB is a sub variant of 2 types of BA.2 variants namely BA.2.10.1 and BA.2.75.
He added that the XBB variant is still under control but they will continue to monitor the development of the variant.
Developments in the country also revolved around the XBB variant when Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ) also expected an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the next few weeks after detecting a small wave of XBB variants in Malaysia.
According to him, the XBB variant has been detected in Malaysia but so far has not led to an increase in hospital admissions and deaths.
There is no need to panic, but KJ expects the people to remain vigilant while the country is still in transition to the endemic phase.
It was previously reported that the Singapore Health Minister has informed that the number of Covid-19 infection cases in the country has increased since last month due to the transmission of the XBB variant with the expectation that the wave of transmission of the variant will peak in mid-November.
Thus, the factor has caused concern for the probability of an increase in cases of infection will also occur in Malaysia, but for now, the Ministry has not acted to implement any restrictive measures, including instructions for the use of face masks.
