Subway, one of the largest restaurant franchises in the world, has successfully implemented a payment trial using Bitcoin (BTC) cryptocurrency in the German capital, Berlin, and received a favorable response from customers.

The payment method that goes through Bitcoin's layer-2, the Lightning Network (LN), was used after the first time Subway conducted an experiment on the digital asset was 13 years ago in Moscow, Russia.

According to Daniel Hinze, who is the owner of the Berlin Subway franchise, he intends to make BTC a currency used by many parties after witnessing 120 transactions through the digital asset over the past few months.

Although European countries are less interested in payment methods through BTC, Hinze offers a 10% discount for footlong menu, marinara meatballs and scookies to encourage customers to make payments using the digital asset.

Not only that, he also launched a week-long campaign offering a 50% discount on every BTC payment.

It is also understood that Hinze has signed an agreement with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lipa, a Switzerland-based BTC company to create an easy-to-use BTC payment location.

The string, Lipa supplies Subway with a device that makes it easy for customers to scan a QR code that enables quick and low-cost payments, but customers will be charged a 1% service fee.

Explained further, Hinze and Lipa expect payment requests using BTC to increase as the digital asset community grows rapidly in Germany, Switzerland and around the world.

In the meantime, Subway restaurants currently only accept payments using BTC as Hinze and his partners really believe in the potential of the digital asset.
