Die-hard fans must be excited when the most famous football club in the world, FC Barcelona launched a non-fungible token (NFT) in the heart of New York City, Times Square which has now been sold for $693,000.
Explained, the NFT features Johan Cruyff, a legendary player who spent five years of his career in Barcelona between 1973 and 1978 and whose legacy in Web 3.0 remains to this day even though he died in 2016.
In fact, the NFT is called 'In a Way, Immortal', which is a video digital artwork that recreates his moments during the match against the Atlético Madrid football club on December 22, 1973 which was auctioned along with four NFT photos of the event.
In context, FC Barcelona signed an agreement with BCN Visuals, which is a strategic innovation partner and Digital Superstudio that developed the cinematographic aesthetics of NFT.
One of the benefits that NFT buyers will get is to become a Barca Digital Ambassador as well as a VIP and unique experience with the club.
These include Meet & Greets, a visit to La Masia, hospitality rights for five years, being allowed to play on Spotify's Camp Nou pitch and handing over the ball before the friendly match kicks off.
On the other hand, FC Barcelona once terminated the agreement with the NFT market Ownix in 2021 after it was rumored that Moshe Hogeg, a consultant of the company had committed fraud.
As a result, Hogeg and seven other individuals were arrested by authorities following a massive cryptocurrency scam even though the collaboration was supposed to allow fans to buy the NFT.
