Saudi Arabia has shared intelligence about the possibility of Iran attacking the United States.
The matter was reported by the Wall Street Journal which said the US military, Saudi Arabia and some other neighboring countries have increased high alertness.
Concerned by the threat, the US National Security Council said it was ready to respond if Iran launched an attack.
"We will not hesitate to act in defense of our interests and allies in the region", according to the spokesperson of the department.
It will also continue to communicate through military and intelligence channels with Saudi Arabia following the warning.
Meanwhile in a separate report, an official who confirmed the partnership said no warning had been issued by the US embassy or consulate to its citizens in Saudi Arabia or elsewhere in the Middle East.
Saudi Arabia also did not immediately respond to the report.
Earlier, the United States had accused Iran of supplying Russia with drones for use in its war with Ukraine, stalling efforts to revive the Iran nuclear deal.
