China is set to announce an easing of Covid-19 quarantine rules and a reduction in mass testing soon.
The drastic changes are the result of widespread public protests across the country recently over the strict restrictions.
Although cases across the country are still nearing record highs, the change comes as some cities have lifted their restrictions.
The measures to be revealed include a reduction in the implementation of mass testing as well as quarantine requirements for positive cases and close contacts in certain circumstances.
This is a far cry from earlier regulations that sparked public outrage when entire communities were locked down for weeks despite only one positive case.
People's frustration culminated last week in the largest public demonstration of resistance on the mainland since President Xi Jinping took power in 2012.
Among the cities that have begun to ease restrictions are Guangzhou, Chongqing and Zhengzhou.
