After Several Days of Withering Movement, the Stock Exchange Begins to Change Direction

 There was a small bounce on the local stock market this morning after tracking Wall Street's positive performance overnight with good US consumer confidence data.


At the opening, the FBM KLCI index started up 1.24 points at 1,463.79 before rising 2.57 points at 1,465.12 compared to Wednesday's close at 1,462.55.


In the broader market, gains at 229 offset losses at 123, while 238 counters were unchanged, 1,674 untraded and 22 suspended.


Total revenue at 353.75 million units worth RM104.16 million.


According to Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd, buying interest is expected to occur in the local market with the recovery of consumer confidence emerging as a positive catalyst.



On that factor, the firm projects that the index will hover at the support level of 1,460-1,450 while the construction and building materials sector becomes an option with the resumption of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) Project.


Heavyweight stocks saw Maybank lose 4 sen at RM8.74 and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) down 1 sen at RM9.16 while Public Bank Bhd added 1 sen at RM4.42, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd rose 1 sen at RM5.80 and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd rose 8 sen to RM8.16.


Active shares saw Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd up 0.5 sen at 1.5 sen and Citaglobal Bhd gained 0.5 sen at 29.5 sen, Reneuco Bhd gained 6.5 sen at 32 sen and Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd gained 1.5 sen at 15.5 sen while XOX Bhd was flat at 2 sen.


On the index board, the FBM Emas index gained 23.01 points at 10,517.76, the FBM Emas Shariah index jumped 33.28 points at 10,585.45, the FBM 70 index gained 37.60 points at 12,851.28, the FBM ACE index added 23.57 points at 5,489.42 and the FBMT 100 index gathered 20.62 points at 10,626.19.


In terms of sectors, the Plantation index gathered 28.01 points at 6,801.36, the Energy index jumped 6.86 points at 791.13, the Products and Services index gained 0.66 points at 176.05 while the Financial Services index fell 1.08 points at 16,601.10.
