The news of the easing of travel restrictions in China has triggered a red alert for many countries.

This is because the number of Covid-19 infection cases in the country has risen sharply since the government announced the easing of restrictions at the beginning of this month.

Among the first to act were Japan, India and Malaysia which announced increased control regulations on tourists from China.

In Japan, tourists arriving from the mainland must undergo a 7-day quarantine if they are confirmed positive for Covid and limit requests from airlines to increase travel to China.

Meanwhile, the latest, the United States government is reportedly considering imposing new measures on tourists from China.

Citing a Reuters report, US officials expressed concern over the continued surge in the coronavirus in China and the lack of transparent data from the country.

Several international news portals have lately reported that most hospitals in the country are filled with Covid patients.

However, official statistics show a different figure, with only one death recorded in the seven days to Monday.

This has sparked doubts among health experts and residents about the data by the Chinese government.
