India's Defense Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed to Parliament that there was a clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the northeastern border state of Arunachal Pradesh last week.
Troops from both sides are said to have retaliated on December 9 after hundreds of Chinese soldiers were found trespassing on the Indian border.
Following that, India raised the matter diplomatically with Beijing and military commanders from both sides have consulted on it.
However, Singh did not elaborate on the 'nature' of the fighting in the area.
Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry Wang Wenbin said the border between the two countries is generally stable.
He added that the two sides have smooth communication on border-related issues through diplomatic and military channels.
Tensions along the country's disputed border have been high since June 2020 clashes (the worst in more than 40 years) that claimed at least 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers.
After about 16 rounds of negotiations between the military commanders, both sides moved their troops from several locations where the meeting took place.
