Russia will increase its military potential with a more than 30% increase in the size of its armed forces by 2023.
The proposal received support from President Vladimir Putin who said he would implement unlimited spending on the war in Ukraine.
Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu proposed to increase the armed forces to 1.5 million from 1.15 million members at a year-end conference on Wednesday.
Shoigu told Putin that this increase was necessary to guarantee the solution of problems related to Russia's military security.
Following that, Putin signed a decree ordering the number of troops to be increased by 137,000 from January 1, 2023 to reach the level of 1.15 million
It also includes a proposal to draft more than 300,000 reservists in a controversial mobilization effort to support Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
In addition, Shoigu also proposed to raise the average age of Russian compulsory military service to protect citizens aged 21-30.
The latest action comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr flies to the United States to meet with President Joe Biden.
Biden also announced $1.85 billion in additional military aid for Ukraine on Wednesday, including the transfer of the Patriot Air Defense System.
In a row, the Kremlin warned Washington that giving more arms to Ukraine would only fuel the 10-month-old war.
