Twitter, the Freedom of Speech Platform That Blocks User Accounts

'Things have to be blocked if they don't bring benefits, Musk doesn't do that for fun.'

The $44 billion acquisition of Twitter Inc by Elon Musk to turn the social media into a platform for freedom of expression can be attributed to the proverb; 'saying a tray of chipped nails, saying that he is more'.

The basis is clearly visible after Twitter is understood to have blocked several media accounts, journalists and its rival service, Mastodon.

It went viral on Twitter's own timeline when the Washington Post, New York Times, Mashable and CNN showed their accounts blocked with warnings saying they violated the platform's rules.

According to Ryan Mac, a New York Times reporter, his personal Twitter account has been blocked without receiving any warning or email notification.

In addition, the Twitter account of sports and political commentator Keith Olbermann was also blocked for 7 days for doxxing*.

*The act of publicly displaying personally identifiable information about an individual or organization over the internet.

In a separate tweet, Olbermann is said to have posted the exact real-time location, described as 'assassination coordinates' information of the factor against the blockade.

Revealing the incident earlier Twitter blocked Mastodon's official account on the platform which posted a link with publicly available flight power to track Musk's private jet.

It also indirectly saw several other accounts sharing the location trackers of private jets, including Musk's plane, blocked on the platform.

In response, Musk explained in a Twitter Space session that doxxing rules apply to 'journalists' and not only famous people.
