It seems that the United States is not the only 'victim' of Chinese espionage, where NATO has also voiced its concern about Beijing's increased espionage activities in Europe.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the recent discovery of a spy balloon in the continental US proves that China has invested heavily in new military capabilities, especially for various types of surveillance and intelligence platforms.
As in America, the organization also detects Beijing's increased intelligence activities in Europe, but using different platforms such as satellites or cyber.
Thus, Stoltenberg warned that NATO should be more alert and aware of the ongoing risks posed by China's actions.
He added that the organization needs to be prepared to respond in a prudent, responsible and vigilant manner.
China has acknowledged that the balloon spotted hovering in US airspace last week was its own, but denied it was sent for intelligence purposes.
The incident has caused US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to cancel a visit to Beijing.
