Meta followed in Twitter's footsteps to open subscription services on its two main platforms, Facebook and Instagram.

In the latest announcement, the company will charge $11.99 per month for the web and $14.99 on iOS for its new service.

Zuckerberg explained that the first countries that can use it will be Australia and New Zealand starting this week, with more countries to follow in the future.

Commenting on the reason for the levy, he only said that users can improve security and authenticity on their platform.

Meanwhile, a Meta spokesperson explained that the new 'Meta Verified' feature will protect users from impersonation.

In addition to the verification badge, the subscription also includes proactive account protection, access to account support.

In addition, it will also include visibility and reach improvements such as search and recommendations, where Meta will use a person's identification ID to verify user usage.

Earlier, verified accounts or Meta blueticks, were given to some famous figures, especially politicians, executives, press media and organizations.

Meta's move comes shortly after Twitter also launched a similar service in Twitter Blue, whose update was rolled out last December.
