Fake XRP Airdrop Promoted! News24's 1.4 Million Followers Got Scammed?

The Twitter account of News24, a leading news outlet in India fell victim to a cryptocurrency scam when hackers posted a link that allowed an individual to airdrop Ripple (XRP) but it was a mere scam.


Reportedly, hackers took over News 24's Twitter account to publish false information that also featured the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of XRP, Brad Garlinghouse in order to gain the trust of many parties.


The streak, News24 hinted that some of its 1.4 million followers may have fallen victim to the scam, where now its team is still struggling to deal with the hackers following several fake announcements still appearing on their Twitter accounts.



Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Twitter account and profiles of Indian Medical Association (IMA), Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) and Mann Deshi Mahila Bank were also caught in the crypto scam.


Explained in more detail, the hacker compromised Mobi's Twitter profile by publishing a malicious post that said India had adopted Bitcoin (BTC) as legal tender and that the government had bought 500 of the digital asset to distribute to the population.


Although it is not known how many individuals have fallen victim to the scam, the number is likely to be large considering Modi has over 87 million followers.


Meanwhile, an individual hacked the Twitter accounts of IMA, ICWA and Mann Deshi Mahila Bank by sharing several tweets featuring billionaire Elon Musk promoting crypto.
