Since the beginning of the conflict with Russia, Ukraine has reportedly received over $70 million in aid in the form of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) cryptocurrencies to purchase military equipment including humanitarian aid.
For the record, ETH donors have contributed $28.9 million while BTC and Tether (USDT) donors have contributed $22.8 million and $11.6 million respectively.
Please note that donations have come in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), such as UkraineDAO auctioning Ukrainian NFTs for $6.1 million.
According to Alex Bornyakov, Ukraine's Deputy Digital Minister stated that in the first month of the war, the country had received 80% of the $70 million and they were able to respond to the Russian aggression quickly.
He added that he was really surprised by the amount of funds his country got after it made it easier for the digital ministry to access the funds to defend Ukraine from the Russian threat.
While the co-founder of Ukrainian DAO named Alona Shevchenko insisted that crypto can provide a solution when sanctions are imposed on the country's central banking system.
Meanwhile, Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation also said that most crypto payments to the digital ministry have been used to finance the country's military equipment, armor and various vehicles including medical.
Today, Ukraine's crypto usage is on the rise as its citizens are found to be the third highest users after Vietnam and the Philippines.
