"That's $10.5 million, maybe he bought a lot of things with that money."

Jatinder Singh, who is married to a 37-year-old Melbourne woman named Thevamanogari Manivel, has been granted bail by the Victoria District Court after mistakenly receiving $10.5 million instead of a $100 refund from exchange company Crypto.com.

After the $7 million was recovered, Senior Constable Conor Healy said Singh may have absconded with the rest of the funds, but Judge Daniel Holding insisted on granting bail.

As reported in August, Crypto.com was found to have started a legal battle against Manivel to recover the funds it spent, where a Crypto.com employee accidentally sent money to his bank account.

But during the court hearing, Manivel failed to return the funds after Singh told him that he had won money in a Crypto.com competition.

Following their respective pleas of not guilty to several charges brought against them, Manivel was granted bail at the committal hearing while Singh remained in custody.

Although the authorities managed to recover $7.3 million, a total of $3.1 million remains outstanding while $2.2 million is in an offshore account.

In the meantime, the judge still wanted to guarantee them even though Constable Healy and Prosecutor Peter Botros objected because Singh might have fled Australia as he did not have any stable job or residence.

Hakim Holding insisted, Singh will not be able to leave the country due to the bail conditions requiring him to hand over his passport.
