Focusing on the European session today is the yen, ahead of the first speech by new Bank of Japan (BOJ) governor Kazuo Ueda at 6.15pm this afternoon.

Although nothing is expected from Ueda's statement, any indication of monetary policy could be a catalyst for the yen.

At the start of the European session, the ninja currency erased some losses against the US dollar recorded in the previous session.

The greenback appears to be losing momentum to continue strengthening, with the dollar index trading lower at around 102.05 against a basket of major currencies.

Earlier, the US NFP report showed an increase of 236,000 jobs in March and the unemployment rate fell to 3.5%.

Following the data, the benchmark US 10-year bond yield managed to record a recovery to rise back to 3.4% before falling slightly in today's trading.

Meanwhile, the euro and the pound remain hovering around the same price despite fluctuations in early trading.

The Aussie and New Zealand dollars rebounded to erase some losses, but the kiwi dollar was still trading lower against the US dollar.

The New York market session is expected to offer a clearer direction for the US dollar and the currency as a whole.
