"It seems that the CEO of Telegram is a strong supporter of crypto, maybe he will buy a lot more."
The creator of Telegram app, Pavel Durov who thinks investing in real estate or airplanes is unwise but really believes in Bitcoin (BTC), has revealed his cryptocurrency holdings in 2023.
Durov reportedly owns $17.5 billion in digital assets, where he owns Telegram shares, BTC and a small amount of Toncoin (TON) which is the main cryptocurrency of the Open Network Layer 1 Telegram blockchain that implements Proof-of-Stake (PoS).
TON adopted by the messaging service has seen a 3% price hike from $1.34 to $1.38 shortly after Durov announced his crypto holdings earlier today.
Through his statement, Durov also said that he bought 2,000 BTC worth $1.5 million in the past decade and now the value of his digital asset is worth $60 million.
In addition to mentioning the growth of instant messaging services, Durov also talked about Telegram which not only had over 800 million monthly active users at the beginning of the year but also 2.5 million new registrations every day.
Last week, Telegram issued bonds worth $270 million to return capital and finance business development.
While it is still unclear who the bond investors are, Durov, who bought a quarter of the bonds to support the platform's growth, said most of them are well-known investors with excellent reputations.
It is well known that there is a lot of competition with new social services, but Telegram still managed to see rapid growth in recent years when it had more than 300 million new users downloading the application in the last two years.
