World Food Supply Threatened Again Because of Russia!

Russia announced the suspension of its participation in a key agreement allowing Ukrainian grain exports on Monday.

This move indirectly rekindled concerns about the global food supply as many countries depend on the export.

Russian authorities had previously signaled that the deal would not be extended beyond a July 17 deadline after Western sanctions on logistics had hit its exports.

As a context, the agreement was negotiated by Turkiye and the United Nations (UN) in July 2022.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia would not renew the agreement now, adding that it "has been terminated".

The move has sparked criticism from various quarters, including Germany, which says Russia is deliberately using the agreement as a weapon in its war with Ukraine.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken condemned the action as inappropriate, saying Russia deliberately used food as a weapon.

Following the announcement, wheat prices surged amid fears it would affect global supply.
