"Wow, it's the best, have you tried to enter the McD metaverse?"
In order to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Chicken McNuggets, the world's largest fast food chain company McDonald's acted to develop McNuggets Land in The Sandbox metaverse platform.
Earlier, McDonald's also filed a patent application to operate an online virtual restaurant featuring home delivery in 2022 but its plans at that time did not materialize.
Returning to McNuggets Land, players will be greeted by a pixelated McNugget character like "Coach McNugget" then joined by his assistant named "Assistant Coach McNugget."
Coach McNugget will invite players to start the fun by finding four McDonald's signs and they also have a chance to earn rewards such as 100,000 SAND worth $44,000 and a mystery box.
The metaverse experience led by Hong Kong-based McDonald's will also allow users in its country to win coupons including free Chicken McNuggets for 365 days.
According to Randy Lai, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of McDonald's Hong Kong said McDonald's will always strive to deliver innovative experiences and happy moments but not like Grimace's birthday celebration which went viral recently in the United States (US).
Meanwhile, Sandbox CEO Sebastian Borget revealed that his collaboration with McDonald's, which has a wide customer base, can bring The Sandbox to a new level and realize its main goal of using the metaverse on a large scale.
However, Lai sees The Sandbox as much easier to navigate and more fun than its competitor Decentraland which is still struggling to maintain its daily active user count.
