BRICS leaders agreed to add new members by inviting Saudi Arabia and several other countries in an effort to further expand its global influence.

The matter was conveyed by the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa in a 'post' on the X social media platform on Thursday.

It is understood that six countries namely Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be invited to become BRICS members from 1 January 2024.

BRICS is a diverse group of nations.

It is an equal partnership of countries that have differing views but a shared vision for a better world.

As the five #BRICS members, we have reached agreement on the guiding principles, standards, criteria and procedures of the #BRICS...

The decision was reached at the 15th annual BRICS summit taking place in Johannesburg this week.

It will also be the first expansion of the alliance since 2010.

The expansion of the emerging market power group could help increase its global strength and overcome the dominance of the G7.
