As part of its ongoing sponsorship of the women's professional basketball league, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase is awarding $120,000 worth of Bitcoin (BTC) to WNBA players.

At the WNBA Commissioner's Cup Tournament, each player was awarded $5,000 in BTC while players on the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces teams each had crypto funds deposited into their personal Coinbase accounts.

In order to expand the partnership with the WNBA in 2022 after Coinbase became the first crypto sponsor of the WNBA and the NBA in September 2021, WNBA players are also offered crypto education from the digital asset exchange.

Coinbase is the presenting partner of the WNBA Commissioner's Cup Tournament that airs live on Amazon Prime Video, where it's an annual competition that gives players extra funds while raising money for charity.

After the Liberty won the final at the Michelob Utara Arena in Las Vegas, fans were not only offered a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from Coinbase but also free single-game passes for the WNBA League Pass streaming service.

In addition to Coinbase's WNBA league deal, the crypto exchange also sponsors the Liberty and Seattle Storm as well as having individual deals for star players Sue Bird and Jewell Loyd.

As the crypto market suffered a drastic fall last year that led to the collapse of several exchanges and projects, Coinbase's WNBA partnership found itself criticized by some fans.
