After South Korean cryptocurrency exchange UPbit Exchange accidentally traded $14,800 worth of fake digital assets, immediate action was taken to stop and rectify the situation.

Reported by UPbit recently, they detected a fake digital asset namely Aptos (APT) from an unidentified source stored in several accounts on UPbit, where it has been legally approved.

The string, UPbit has acknowledged its negligence in following up on mistaking some of the items as genuine APTs, but the mistake has unfortunately left customers unaware that they have purchased fake tokens.

However, UPbit, which quickly discovered the problem, immediately suspended deposits and withdrawals, then resumed service late in the evening on the same day as the temporary suspension.

UPbit which is currently working to recover the counterfeit balance has assured its users that they will recover two-thirds of the fake APT tokens.

It is widely known that the problem was triggered by the recently added APT functionality, where it allows users to issue a version of APT tokens only using their mainnet platform.

However, during the process, UPbit mistakenly recognized both fake and genuine coins as APT and their failure to distinguish them resulted in the sale of fake digital assets.
