Demand 40% Salary Increase, US Workers Launch Strike At 3 Large Factories!

Thousands of workers went on strike at the three biggest US carmakers after failing to reach an agreement on a new labor contract.

It comes after the labor contract expired on Thursday night, where the United Auto Workers (UAW) said General Motors (GM), Ford and Stellantis had not submitted new acceptable offers.

The strike action could lead to higher prices for buyers and major disruption for the motor industry giants.

UAW President Shawn Fain said it was now up to the company to resolve the dispute.

The strike began at midnight American time (morning in Malaysia) at GM's Wentzville, Missouri truck plant, the Ford plant in Michigan and the Jeep plant in Ohio owned by Stellantis.

Targeted attacks usually focus on key factories which can then cause other factories to stop production due to parts shortages.

Ford Chief Executive Jim Farley said that the UAW's proposal to raise wages by 40%, reduce the work week and add new pension benefits could bankrupt the company.

If implemented, labor costs would more than double, which are already far higher than the labor costs of Tesla, Toyota and other foreign-owned automakers in the US.
