The number of Americans applying for jobless benefits last week fell to a seven-month low as the labor market appeared to be resistant to higher interest rates being imposed, in part to stabilize employment.

American claims for jobs fell by 13,000 to 216,000 for the week ended September 2, the Labor Department reported on Thursday.

The four-week average for claims, which calculates a partial average of week-to-week dependence, fell by 8,500 to 229,250.

Unemployment claims are considered to be representative of the number of job losses in a given week. Overall, 1.68 million people collected unemployment benefits in the week ending Aug. 26, about 40,000 fewer than the previous week.

The US dollar index, which measures the greenback, was not much affected after the release of this data, still trading strong by 0.25% to a trading level of 105.087.
