Recently, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has frozen 41 accounts and several other agencies of the non-governmental organization (NGO) Aman Palestine amounting to RM15,868,762 after they were accused of misusing public donations.

In his statement, this investigation has been carried out since mid-October and they also searched the premises of Aman Palestine to check documents related to finance and operational management over a period of five years.

The investigation was conducted to obtain information regarding offenses in accordance with the MACC Act 2009, the Prevention of Money Laundering, Prevention of Terrorism Financing and Proceeds from Illegal Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001) and the Penal Code (Act 574).

The MACC also recorded the testimony of several witnesses and the results of the initial investigation found that there were several issues involving the embezzlement of funds estimated at RM70 million that were not used for the actual purpose of establishing the company.

According to the Chief Commissioner of MACC, Tan Sri Azam Baki reported that this was the initial action of the investigation before his party summoned some of the individuals involved.

Previously, Perlis Mufti Datuk Mohd Asri Zainul asked the Perlis State Department of Islamic Religious Affairs (JAIPs) not to allow the collection of the Palestinian Peace Fund to be carried out at Islamic religious premises in the state.

His action was due to doubts about the collection and distribution of funds by Aman Palestine and demanded more transparency regarding this issue.`
