Recently, the Madani Government has just announced to block and not allow the Israeli-based shipping company ZIM to dock at any Malaysian port.

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim insisted the Ministry of Transport to take immediate action by imposing a permanent ban on the company to be enforced immediately.

Various parties including non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are urging the government to prevent ships owned by companies based in Israel from docking in Malaysia. There is an allegation that a ship belonging to the ZIM company will dock at Westports, Port Klang on 26 December.

He further said that the sanctions are a response to Israel's actions that ignore basic humanitarian principles and violate international law through cruelty against Palestinians. Based on records, the Cabinet in 2002 began to allow the company's ships to dock in Malaysia.

In 2005, the then Cabinet gave permission for the ship to land in Malaysia. However, the government today canceled all the decisions that had been made before.

In addition, Anwar Ibrahim also insisted to no longer allow any ship that uses the Israeli flag to dock in Malaysia.

Both restrictions are effective immediately. Malaysia is confident that the decision will not affect Malaysia's trade activities.
