Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Wednesday called for unity, saying China and the United States should strengthen economic and trade ties while Washington should avoid confrontation with China. These remarks were made during his meeting with the visiting American delegation, according to Chinese state radio reports.
"Strengthening economic and trade cooperation is a win-win situation for both countries," Li told the delegation led by the head of the Chamber of Commerce, Suzanne Clark.
"Looking for gaps and building obstacles is not in line with the basic interests of both sides," he added.
Li said US companies are welcome to continue investing in China and stressed that the obstacles imposed will not bring the fundamental interests of both sides.
Clark is leading a delegation of former US government officials to Beijing this week, the group said. The visit comes as the United States and China gradually resume cooperation after strained ties in recent years, including disagreements over the future of Taiwan.
