The Worldcoin (WLD) cryptocurrency co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman finally managed to see a significant climb of over 186% in the past week to reach over $8 from $2.20 on February 7, 2024.
It was also revealed that their digital asset application known as World App has achieved an extraordinary success when its users finally reached one million compared to November last year which only had 100,000 users.
The growth of the project was sparked after OpenAI on February 15, 2024 introduced Sora which is a text-to-video generator that allows users to create video clips or scenes using text prompts which is a major advance in AI-generated content.
A week before Sora's announcement on February 9, 2024, Altman plans to raise $7 trillion to support and boost the firm's efforts in semiconductor chip development, which he says is a critical area for advancing AI technology.
Launched by Altman and Alex Blania in July 2023, WLD is a privacy-preserving digital identity verification project whose unique approach involves compensating users through WLD in exchange for scanning their irises.
The project also aims to introduce Universal Basic Income (UBI) worldwide, but its approach to UBI, the WLD methodology especially biometric identity verification through metal eye scanning devices known as Orbs has sparked debate and concern.
As of this writing, the price of WLD has surged by 20.05% at $7.32 in the last 24 hours with a market capitalization of $960 million and a further 173.83% increase over the last week.
