China has launched new guidelines that will eliminate US processors in government computers and servers by blocking chips from companies Intel and AMD.

The guidelines were announced on December 26 and are now effective immediately. This will affect Microsoft's Windows operating system and foreign-made database software because they prefer alternatives from China itself.

Higher government agencies at the municipal level have been instructed to purchase more 'safe and reliable' chips and operating systems.

AMD and Intel declined to comment on the report.

This comes as China has ramped up its domestic semiconductor industry as it seeks to reduce its reliance on foreign technology.

Semiconductors are delicate and sophisticated components found in a variety of devices from smartphones to medical equipment. So that it can become the center of the technological war between the United States and China.

Meanwhile, the US has already implemented export restrictions to bypass Beijing from key semiconductor equipment and technology industries.

In October 2022, Washington introduced strict rules aimed at restricting China's ability to access, obtain or manufacture advanced conductor chips amid concerns that China could use them for military purposes.

The US then introduced new legislation in October 2023 to prevent US chip design firm Nvidia from selling advanced US chips to China.

Since 2019, Chinese technology companies such as Huawei and China's largest chip maker SMIC have been subject to sanctions by the US with the aim of restricting their access to advanced technology.

SMIC was also unable to acquire the ultra-sophisticated ultraviolet lithography machine to make advanced chips from the ASML firm.
