Stock Market Rises Mid-Session, Buying In Selected Stocks Remains Dominant

Bursa Malaysia was positive at midday with the main index rising 4.36 points as it was supported by the utilities and financial services counters.


At mid-session, Tenaga Nasional Bhd rose 18 sen to RM11.70, YTL Corp Bhd rose four sen to RM2.65 and CIMB Group Holdings Bhd rose four sen to RM6.67, contributing 3.19 points to the composite index.


The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 0.28% to 1,559.61 from 1,555.25 at the close last Friday.


The benchmark index opened 1.53 points higher at 1,556.78 and it moved between 1,554.15 to 1,559.64 during the morning trading session.


Broad market sentiment was negative with losers beating gainers 458 to 455. Meanwhile, 472 counters were unchanged, 946 were untraded and nine others were suspended.


The total turnover is 2.56 billion units worth RM1.17 billion.



Brokerage firm Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd believes that with the rebound in Wall Streets will give a positive response in the Malaysian stock market to maintain its optimistic tone today (Monday).


For now, traders should focus on commodity-related sectors such as oil, gas, plantations and gold as their respective commodity prices are trending higher.


Additionally, the local market expects that the momentum in the construction, real estate and building materials sectors may continue as more mega infrastructure projects are announced this year.


Meanwhile, Malayan Banking Bhd increased three sen to RM9.67, Public Bank Bhd increased one sen to RM4.19, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd increased two sen to RM6.87 and IHH Healthcare Bhd increased two sen to RM6. 07. Meanwhile, CelcomDigi Bhd was unchanged at RM4.23.


Among active stocks, SBH Marine Holdings Bhd gained 4.5 sen to 26.5 sen, Niche Capital Emas Holdings Bhd gained one sen to 15 sen, PUC Bhd was unchanged at 5.5 sen, Velesto Energy Bhd lost one sen to 27 sen and KNM Group Bhd fell 0.5 cents to eight cents.


On the index board, the FBM EMAS index gained 36.89 points to 11,740.07, the FBMT 100 index rose 37.07 points to 11,375.81, the FBM EMAS index was 34.55 points at 11,900.65, the ACE Index fell 6.83 points to 4,974.76.
